MacBeth Studio Systems | M3 |
Description | The M3 is a traditional hand-built three oscillator analogue synthesizer featuring a 24dB/octave, self oscillating transistor ladder filter. Great emphasis has been made to provide the user with a machine made from the highest grade parts in all circuits. The Oscillators feature rigid temperature stabilization for drift free operation and they span accurately, more than ten octaves. The frequency range is governed by the novel use of "ten-turn potentiometers", which act as fine and coarse tuning controls. An LED on each osc. provides a visual status indicator showing whether the osc. is working in low freq or audio mode. All oscillators cross modulate each other and they also modulate the filter too. Three wave forms are available-Sawtooth, Triangular and Rectangular. A separate White Noise source is available as is a Digital Ring Modulator/Multiplier whose inputs are derived from Osc1 and Osc2. Osc2 also can be hard synched to Osc1. The Filter section is controlled by a contour generator; variable wide range Keyboard Tracking and there is an external VCF control input on the rear of the unit. An external audio input to the filter is also provided. The filter contour generator can be made to sweep Osc2. The Loudness, or VCA section shares a similar independant contour generator which in both cases allows variable Attack, Decay, Sustain parameters and a switched in Release setting. Both contour generators feature LED status indicators. A Hold function is included. |

Velocity | As with a piano, the harder you hit a key, the louder the sound, unlike most organs which always produce the same loudness no matter how hard you hit a key. | Aftertouch | Pressing a key after you activated it. Channel Aftertouch, no matter which key, it will send a Channel message. Poly Aftertouch, sends the pressure per key instead of the whole channel. |
Values for OSC, LFO, Filter, Envelope are per voice unless stated otherwise. |
